Game Modes

Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters ships with a short mode list and a deep match engine. TAMSOFT did not bury a dozen extra tournaments under the menu. Bandai Namco Entertainment launched the sequel on 27 August 2026 in Japan and 28 August 2026 worldwide, including Steam, with Story, New Stars, Rival Episodes, Practice, Versus, Team Edit, Collection, and an in-game cosmetic shop. This page is the menu tour. For shared rules, read How to Play. For the pad, read Controls.

The game is not Story-only, and it is not Versus-only. World Youth, a created Japan Youth player, local split-screen, private matches, and online ranked all sit on the same installer. Versus matches last near ten minutes, Story is episode-shaped, and Practice is where you should live until Max clashes make sense.

Story, New Stars, and Rival Episodes

Story is the World Youth campaign supervised by Yoichi Takahashi. You play Japan Youth through Asian qualifiers and into the tournament. Legendary and Advanced routes add original, non-manga matches, including extra national sides. SIDE/LINK threads sit beside the spine. The Story Walkthrough is the route guide; this page only tells you Story is a mode you select, not a cinematic you watch once.

New Stars is a second Story path. You create a player, join Japan Youth, and fight beside Tsubasa. Bonds teach techniques, and some moves stay gated until characters unlock. Read the New Stars route before you spend an hour on hair. Rival Episodes are character side stories about rivals training toward the same world stage. Play them when a Super Move just punished you, not as a replacement for the main path.

A main World Youth run is about ten hours. New Stars, Legendary, Advanced, SIDE/LINK, and Rival Episodes add more. None of those modes change stamina, chain, Super Moves, or keeper Breaks. They only change who is in the cutscene before kickoff.

Practice

Practice is the mode launch-week players skip and then regret. It splits into free practice with custom settings and training drills that force specific techniques. Use free practice to rehearse Perfect dribbles, Max charge timing, six-way keeper reads, and Super Block windows without a story timer. Use training when you want the game to put you in a situation a menu cannot describe.

Custom settings are why Practice beats repeating an easy qualifier. Work on one mechanic until it is boring, then take it into Story or Versus. If dash stamina still dies before you enter the box, stay here. If you do not know which button is Super Move, stay here and open the command list. Getting Started treats Practice as part of hour one for a reason.

Versus: local split-screen, private matches, and online ranked

Versus is Regular Match, offline match, and private match. Offline covers local split-screen and CPU exhibition. Private matches are arranged rooms. Regular Match is online ranked and public versus, with a player card rank that rises as you win and can unlock rewards. All of those options use the same 22 national teams, 110-plus characters, and roughly five club or school sides.

Start with local split-screen if another person is on the couch. Private matches are the next step when you want a set lineup, a chosen stadium, and golden-goal extra time without a rank on the line. Online ranked is the long-term ladder. Take a Team Edit squad or a New Stars player only after you can survive a chain turnover.

Some pre-release reviews could not reach online matchmaking at all. Launch-week online can still vary by platform. If a queue stalls, go back to Practice, Story, or local split-screen. Steam runs Easy Anti-Cheat; that does not add extra Versus rules. Versus lets you pick teams and stadiums, but match length is not a deep slider — expect that accelerated ten-minute clock.

Team Edit, Collection, and the shop

Team Edit is the dream-squad builder. Choose starting positions, tactics, and Super Move mix, and include a custom player if you made one in New Stars. With more than 110 playable characters, the sandbox is wide enough to test Tier List hub ideas without touching your Story save. Take edited teams into Practice first, then into a private match or online ranked.

Collection is the gallery: music, movies, cutscenes, and character cards, including launch-bonus Moete Hero arrangements if you own them. The in-game shop sells cosmetics for in-game currency. It is not the Season Pass, which is real-money DLC through August 2027 with six characters and uniforms. Standard, Deluxe ($79.99 with pass and black ball), and Ultimate ($89.99 with the Ultimate pack) are compared on Editions and DLC.

Pick a mode for the night. Story or New Stars for scenes, Practice for timing, Versus for a human test, Team Edit for a new Super Move mix. The official mode trailer below is a menu map; the rest of this wiki is what to do after you highlight an option.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What modes are in Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters?

Story (World Youth, Legendary, Advanced, SIDE/LINK), New Stars, Rival Episodes, Practice, Versus, Team Edit, Collection, and an in-game cosmetic shop. Versus includes local split-screen, private matches, and online ranked.

Is there local split-screen?

Yes. Versus supports local split-screen as well as private matches and online ranked. Start there if you want a human test before a player card rank is on the line.

Some pre-release reviews could not access it. Launch-week online may still vary by platform. Keep Practice and Story ready if a Regular Match queue stalls.
