Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters Launch Notes
Platforms, Mixed Steam reviews, versus caveats, and what to install first.
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is on sale. Japanese consoles launched on 27 August 2026. Worldwide copies, including Steam, launched on 28 August 2026. Tamsoft developed it. Bandai Namco Entertainment publishes it on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam (app 2172910). Steam’s own date stamp may show 27 August depending on region; treat 28 August as the worldwide Steam day.
This page is the launch-week caveat list: review themes, PC warnings, versus status, and the first guides worth opening. For SKUs and the Season Pass calendar, use editions and DLC and the edition comparison tool. For official storefronts, use the wiki links page.
Platforms, price, and what shipped
Standard is $59.99. Deluxe is $79.99. Ultimate is $89.99. Those are Bandai Namco’s US figures. The base game is a complete World Youth campaign with versus, practice, local split-screen, 22 national teams, and over 110 playable characters. Interface and subtitles cover twelve languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and both Chinese scripts. Character voice acting is Japanese only.
Steam ships 34 achievements, Steam Cloud, Family Sharing, and partial controller support. The store recommends an Xbox-layout pad. Composer Tadayoshi Makino (SpinSolfa) wrote over 100 energized tracks. Minimum PC specs ask for Windows 11, 16 GB RAM, and about 22 GB of storage; older 1080p/30 setups are called out in the additional notes. Confirm the live table on system requirements before you refund a machine that never hit 60.
Mixed Steam, and what critics actually argued
Launch-week Steam is Mixed: about 56 percent of roughly 60 user reviews are positive. That is a small sample, not a six-month score. User posts already split between “masterpiece on a pad” and refunds over Easy Anti-Cheat, missing Portuguese, or missing features from Rise of New Champions.
Paid coverage is more consistent, and it is not a clean rave. Reviewers who like the game praise Super Move spectacle, keeper-versus-shooter duels, the Chain System, and a denser World Youth campaign than the 2020 sequel. The same reviews then list the same fatigue points:
- Spectacle versus repetition. Fireball shots still thrill on the first Brazil match and dull on the fifth identical tackle camera. Skip options help on repeat episode attempts; they do not invent new animations.
- HUD clutter. Matches stack stamina, Chain, Max Actions, Super Move prompts, and optional episode objectives. Several players report losing the ball in the chrome. If the overlay feels loud, learn the meters from getting started and the how to play guide before you turn difficulty down.
- Story interruptions. Cutscenes and short loads punch holes in Story Mode. One scene, a logo load, another scene, then kickoff. Critics call it anime-faithful and rhythm-breaking in the same paragraph. Some matches even fire two or three events in a row.
- Price debate. $59.99 is a full-game tag. Reviewers who enjoyed twenty hours still called the variety thin for the money, especially once you notice how much of the roster is reskins of the same duel. Deluxe and Ultimate do not fix that; they add later characters and cosmetics. Read editions and DLC if the extra $20 or $30 is the question, not the pitch.
- Versus over the network. Several launch reviews could not test it. Do not treat a campaign score as a ranked-versus score. Local split-screen is in the feature list. Network versus exists as a Steam and console mode; launch-week stability and population are still unknown. Mode rules live on game modes.
PC caveats: Anti-Cheat, Deck, and day-one reports
Steam lists Easy Anti-Cheat at kernel level. After you uninstall, you must remove it by hand. That is not optional flavor text. Steam Deck is marked Unsupported. Launch posts already report the anti-cheat blocking Deck and Proton sessions. Buy the PC build for a Windows desktop that meets spec, not as a handheld title.
Day-one Steam News on 28 August 2026 opened a PC Crash Report Thread and asked Windows players to report crashes, hangs, and stuck loads. Community posts mention black-screen boots, resolution bugs, and pads the game does not see. None of that is a numbered patch yet. Troubleshooting steps sit on PC issues. Watch Steam News and the wiki links page rather than assuming a silent hotfix landed. Paid coverage at launch includes Gazettely at 8.5 and HobbyConsolas at 76; the review page puts those scores next to Mixed Steam.
What to do this week
Install Standard unless you already decided on the Season Pass. Confirm the PC box on system requirements. Then play the tutorial path in getting started, learn meters in how to play, and pick a mode from game modes. Scout a side on the players hub only after you can land a charged shot without staring at the HUD.
If Bandai posts a numbered patch, it will be summarized from this updates hub. Until that happens, treat this page as the live caveat list: Mixed Steam, loud HUD, story stops, untested network versus in some reviews, kernel anti-cheat, and an Unsupported Deck.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for launch week on PS5, Xbox, Switch, and Steam.
When did Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters launch?
Japan consoles on 27 August 2026. Worldwide, including Steam, on 28 August 2026. Steam's store stamp may show 27 August in some regions.
Why are Steam reviews Mixed?
About 56 percent of roughly 60 launch-week user reviews are positive. Praise clusters on spectacle; complaints cluster on repetition, HUD clutter, story interruptions, price, Easy Anti-Cheat, and Steam Deck Unsupported.
Does it run on Steam Deck?
Steam lists the Deck as Unsupported. Easy Anti-Cheat is kernel-level and launch reports say it blocks Deck and Proton. Treat the PC version as a Windows title and check system requirements.
Do I have to keep Easy Anti-Cheat after uninstall?
No. Steam's store text says Easy Anti-Cheat requires manual removal after you uninstall the game. Plan for that extra step on PC.
Was versus over the network testable at launch?
Not in every review. Several critics filed campaign scores without a network versus session. Local split-screen shipped. Mode details are on game modes.
I just installed. What should I read next?
Hardware on system requirements, then getting started and how to play. Compare SKUs on editions and DLC only if you have not bought the game yet.
