Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters Controls
Dash, pass, shoot, Max Actions, and keeper inputs on PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch.
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters looks like soccer and plays like a duel. TAMSOFT rebuilt the command set around stamina, one-button dribbles and tackles, charged Max Actions, and a Super Move button that is separate from shoot. This page is the pad map for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Steam includes a keyboard layout, but a controller is recommended and Easy Anti-Cheat sits on the PC build either way.
Use the table as a first-night reference, then switch to How to Play for why chain level, Super Moves, and keeper Breaks punish sloppy inputs. If you have not finished install and Practice yet, start with Getting Started instead of memorizing every face button.
Command table
Face buttons follow the usual PlayStation-to-Xbox-to-Switch mapping: Cross matches A matches B, Square matches X matches Y, Triangle matches Y matches X. Bumpers follow R1 / RB / R and L1 / LB / L. Open the in-game command list after you pick a pad. Super Move sits on a dedicated button listed there; it is not shoot and it is not Max charge.
| Action | PlayStation 5 | Xbox | Switch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Move ball carrier or closest defender | Left stick | Left stick | Left stick |
| Dash | R1 | RB | R |
| Pass | Cross | A | B |
| Shoot / charge shot | Square | X | Y |
| Max Dribble / Max Tackle (hold to charge) | Triangle | Y | X |
| Switch player | L1 | LB | L |
| Super Move | Dedicated Super Move button | Dedicated Super Move button | Dedicated Super Move button |
| Keeper dive direction | Left stick (six directions) | Left stick (six directions) | Left stick (six directions) |
Offense is five verbs: run, powerful action, dribble, pass, and shoot. Defense auto-locks the teammate nearest the ball, so you steer one marker instead of cycling the whole back line. Manual switch still matters when the carrier sprints past your current player or when you need a specific Super Tackle or Super Block.
Dash, stamina, and 1v1s
Dash is the command new players abuse first. Hold the bumper and the carrier or tracking defender accelerates, but stamina drops the entire time. A single star cannot carry box to box on dash the way some Rise of New Champions habits allowed. Short dashes to close a gap, then a pass or a timed dribble, keep the gauge alive for the Max clash you actually need.
Stamina is also the health bar of a dribble-versus-tackle exchange. When those moves collide, leftover gauge can still complete the beat; zero gauge gives the defender the ball. Pass early if the carrier is tired instead of waiting for a Super Move gauge you have not filled.
Max Actions, shooting, and Super Move
Hold Triangle / Y / X to charge a Max Dribble on offense or a Max Tackle on defense. Max Actions beat ordinary dribbles and tackles once they fire, but the windup is long enough to read. When two Max Actions collide, the later activation wins. If you see the opponent start charging, wait a beat, then fire. Tap first because you are nervous, and you donate the animation.
Shoot is Square / X / Y. Hold it to charge. Crossing the line produces a Normal Shot; filling the gauge produces that character’s Shoot Move. That is not a Super Shot. Super Moves need a filled Super Move gauge, then the dedicated Super Move button. Position decides whether that button is Super Shot, Pass, Aerial, Dribble, Tackle, or Block. There is no double-charge shortcut from Rise of New Champions.
After the ball leaves the boot, shooter and keeper each pick one of six directions. A correct keeper read is a Perfect save and barely chips stamina. A miss, a high chain, or a Super Shot is how you force a Break, which permanently lowers the keeper’s cap when shot power exceeds remaining stamina. Full duel rules are on How to Play. The Japan versus Thailand match below shows dash bursts, charged shots, and Super Moves at real speed. Watch how often the ball changes feet before anyone holds shoot.
Keyboard and first-week habits
Steam ships a keyboard mapping, but Max clash timing is easier with analog movement. If you must use a keyboard, bind dash, Max charge, Super Move, and player switch immediately. Easy Anti-Cheat will be running; overlay tools can fail. Confirm system requirements if the PC build will not boot.
Two habits save more goals than any hidden command. Stop dashing through midfield because the name on the shirt feels fast — pass, raise chain, then shoot. On defense, trust the auto-lock and save L1 / LB / L for the moment the carrier actually beats your marker. Random switching is how you leave a Super Dribble on a free run.
When the pad feels comfortable, return to Getting Started or jump to Game Modes and run Practice until Perfect dribbles are consistent. The Story Walkthrough and New Stars route assume you already know this table.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for launch week on PS5, Xbox, Switch, and Steam.
What button dashes in Captain Tsubasa 2?
Dash is R1 on PlayStation, RB on Xbox, and R on Switch. It spends stamina the entire time you hold it, so short bursts beat box-to-box sprints. See How to Play for why stamina decides 1v1s.
How do I perform a Max Dribble or Max Tackle?
Hold Triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox, or X on Switch to charge. When two Max Actions collide, the later activation wins. Practice the counter in Game Modes before you try it in Story.
Is shoot the same button as Super Move?
No. Shoot is Square / X / Y and only charges a Normal Shot or Shoot Move. Super Moves use a dedicated Super Move button after the Super Move gauge fills. Confirm the exact face button in the in-game command list.
Can I play Captain Tsubasa 2 with a keyboard?
Yes on Steam, but a controller is recommended. Easy Anti-Cheat is still required. Check system requirements and keep a pad nearby for Max clash timing.
How do I switch defenders?
Defense auto-locks the player nearest the ball. Press L1 / LB / L when you need a different marker. Random switching is usually worse than steering the auto-lock.
Where should I go after learning the pad?
Read How to Play for Chain, Super Moves, and keeper Breaks, then return to Getting Started if you still need a first-hour route.
