Getting Started

Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is out now. Japan consoles shipped on 27 August 2026; worldwide platforms including Steam followed on 28 August 2026. TAMSOFT built the sequel, Bandai Namco Entertainment published it, and it runs on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam for Windows 11. This page is the first-hour plan: install, pick an edition, set Japanese voices, learn Practice, then start World Youth.

The sequel to Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions runs on stamina, Max Dribble, Max Tackle, a Chain System that climbs to level 10, Super Moves at every position, Miracle Actions, and keeper Breaks. Keep Controls and How to Play nearby. This page is the order of operations, not the full rulebook.

Install, editions, and language

Confirm the SKU before Story. Standard is $59.99. Deluxe is $79.99 with the Season Pass and a black ball. Ultimate is $89.99 with Deluxe plus five uniforms, three balls, two celebrations, two menu themes, and two early powerful move cards. The Season Pass is real-money DLC through August 2027, with six characters and uniforms. The in-game shop spends in-game currency on cosmetics. Compare SKUs on Editions and DLC.

Launch and pre-order bonuses expired after 27 August 2026, 22:59 GMT+8. If you bought in time you should have the 2026 Japan national team and World Youth jersey set, an early Brazil Youth unlock, and two Moete Hero arrangements. Those items are not a live store offer now.

On Steam, Easy Anti-Cheat is required. Check system requirements, then plug in a controller. A keyboard exists, but a pad is recommended. Set character voices to Japanese; there is no English voice track. Menus and subtitles include English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and more. Steam launch reviews were mixed, about 56 percent positive from around 60 reviews, mostly over mechanical friction rather than a missing campaign.

Practice before the first story match

Open Game Modes and enter Practice. Free practice with custom settings is a quiet pitch; training drills force specific techniques. Spend the session on four habits:

  1. Dash only in short bursts. Dash is R1 / RB / R and spends stamina. One carrier cannot sprint the length of the pitch.
  2. Pass on Cross / A / B and shoot on Square / X / Y. Hold shoot to charge; a full charge is a Shoot Move, not a Super Shot.
  3. Charge Max Dribble or Max Tackle on Triangle / Y / X. When two Max Actions collide, the later activation wins.
  4. Defense auto-locks the nearest player. Tap L1 / LB / L only when you need a specific marker.

Leave Super Move gauge alone until it fills. Super Moves use a dedicated button, separate from shoot. When Perfect dribbles land and you can pick one of six keeper directions without panic, start Story.

First World Youth match and stamina basics

Start World Youth as Japan Youth. The campaign continues after Rise of New Champions and is supervised by Yoichi Takahashi. Early matches teach roles: defenders win the ball, midfielders raise chain level, forwards charge shots that cut keeper stamina. The Story Walkthrough covers qualifier order — Thailand, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, China — without dumping endings.

Treat the opposing keeper as a stamina bar. Early shots get saved on purpose. Charged shots, higher chain, and Super Shots later in the clock are how you Break a keeper when shot power exceeds remaining stamina. Turnovers transfer chain level. Full systems sit on How to Play.

If you want a created player in that locker room, read the New Stars route before you lock face, physique, and signature moves. New Stars is a parallel campaign, not a costume you toggle mid-match.

When to open Versus, Team Edit, and the shop

Versus can wait until you can charge a shot and survive a Max clash. Start with local split-screen or a private match, then online ranked once chain turnovers make sense. Versus also has online public matches and a player card rank. Some pre-release reviews could not reach matchmaking, so launch-week online may vary by platform. Details are on Game Modes.

Team Edit and Collection can wait. Team Edit is for dream squads and a custom player. Collection stores music and movies. The shop sells cosmetics for in-game currency; save real money for the Season Pass if you want the six DLC characters.

After night one, keep this plan, Controls, and How to Play nearby. Add the Story Walkthrough when qualifiers stack, and the Players hub plus the Tier List hub when you care who takes the Super Shot.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for launch week on PS5, Xbox, Switch, and Steam.

What should I do in the first hour of Captain Tsubasa 2?

Confirm your edition on Editions and DLC, set Japanese voices, complete a Practice session, then play the opening World Youth match. Read Controls before you dash across the pitch.

Is there English voice acting?

No. Voices are Japanese only. Menus and subtitles include English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and more. Leave VO on Japanese even if you play the UI in English.

Do I need Deluxe or Ultimate to start?

No. Standard at $59.99 is the full game. Deluxe and Ultimate add the Season Pass, the black ball, and Ultimate pack cosmetics. Compare them on Editions and DLC.

When should I try Versus?

After you can charge shots, spend dash stamina on purpose, and survive a Max clash in Practice. Start with local split-screen or a private match, then online ranked. See Game Modes.

Should I start New Stars on day one?

Only if you already want a custom Japan Youth player. Otherwise finish the opening World Youth matches first, then read the New Stars route before you lock looks and signature moves.
